Heat Pumps

Heat your pool using electricity

Electric Swimming Pool Heat Pumps

Heat Pumps use electricity to draw heat from the ambient air temperature and transfer it to your pool water. They offer a good alternative when adequate roof space isn't available for Thermal Solar Pool Heating or natural gas lines are inaccessible. Allow Eco Pool Heating to select the right Heat Pump to suit your needs.

We install Energy-Efficient Pool Heat Pumps

At Eco Pool Heating we understand that one of the most important considerations when installing a Heat Pump is to select the right sized heater to suit your expectations, needs, pool volume and location. Whether you want your pool heated year-round or simply to get a few more months either side of summer, we can assist you in selecting the right sized Heat Pump to provide you with the heating you desire. Our range of Heat Pumps offer energy-efficient, quite and year-round swimming and can be installed in less than a day!

How Do Heat Pumps Work?

Heat Pumps use electricity to heat your pool, and employ the same principles as your refrigerator or air conditioner. Basically, a refrigerant gas is moved through a series of aluminum finned tubes called an evaporator. A large fan draws heat from the ambient air and transfers it to the evaporator. The refrigerant is then compressed, significantly increasing its temperature. It then moves through a heat exchanger. At the same time the pool water is pumped through the heat exchanger where a heat transfer between the refrigerant and pool water takes place.

Therefore, Heat Pumps offer the advantage of being able to operate at low temperatures (provided they are sized appropriately).  Just keep in mind that they will be significantly less efficient when there is less ambient heat in the air.

Should I choose a Heat Pump?

Heat Pumps are ideal for those looking for an extended swimming season and provide an alternative if you don’t have the roof space to install Thermal Solar Pool Heating, as they are generally installed on the ground and only require a small amount of space. Heat Pumps offer the following advantages:

  • Cheaper to run and more energy efficient than Gas Heating
  • Doesn’t require roof space
  • Can heat and cool the pool
  • Use during off peak electricity tariffs for lower operating costs
  • Small units are plug and play (GPO)
  • Works in most weather conditions (above 7°C)

Heat Pumps don’t create heat, they transfer it from the ambient air, therefore the warmer the air, the warmer the pool. This means that they are not as efficient during the colder months and are not usually recommended for year-round heating. Under some circumstances they can be sized up to provide heating throughout winter, provided your pool size and location are suitable.
